(1) About Halo-Halo
The Filipino Mixed Methods Fair is UST’s offering to the Philippine research community. The Fair aims to equip Filipino researchers with the principles, techniques and methodological possibilities from conducting mixed methods. As said by many scholars past and present, mixed methods is the conduct of quantitative and qualitative strands in research that leads to producing results, findings and conclusions that provide a broader understanding of a phenomenon. Employing a “mixed methods way of thinking” (Jennifer Greene, 2007) gives Filipinos chances of contributing newer theoretical, empirical and methodological knowledge —multi-disciplinary at that— that is rooted from the Philippines and her cultural realities.
This Fair is themed after the staple Filipino iced dessert. Halo-Halo becomes the culturally aligned theme for mixed methods by Filipinos. Combining ingredients to make this refreshing summer dessert is similar to how combining quantitative and qualitative approaches yields more comprehensive research findings and insights.
